Robert Crumb at Barnes and Noble
This drawing is from October 23, 2009 when Francoise Mouly interviewed Robert Crumb to celebrate the publication of his version of “The Book of Genesis”. The question came out of turn towards the end, but I thought it was worth repeating. Asking Robert Crumb if he drew everything himself is sort of like asking Jimmy Page if he really plays his own guitar, but when he answered in the affirmative, a great hurrah erupted from the audience. It really is a beautiful book – the crunchy granola version of Genesis.

Isabella, this cartoon is wonderful on so many levels! It’s on the ground reporting at it’s best. And ya gotta love the man; “fuckin’A ” is so old school!
BRAVO to Bannerman!!
[too many exclamation marks?? I don't think so!!]

Isy,
This is amazing! Love it! It was such a surprise to log on and find this masterpiece!I’d love to see you do a graphic novel. Or, have you done one?

A WONDERFUL post!! I’ve seen portions of Crumb’s Genesis, and it is a thing of beauty, regardless of one’s religious persuasion. Your use of the real life, incorporating both Crumb’s style and your own, is PURE GENIUS!!
But really, did you draw it all yourself?

That’s really funny, Isabella! I saw some of that interview online and he was so low key.

Oh thanks guys. Crumb was interesting. He talked about ancient Sumerian texts, and how they led to the Old Testament stories, etc.
